Comb Back Windsor
White oak, hard maple, eastern white pine, milk paint finish - H: 45” x D: 28” x W: 26”
Rooted in early Windsor traditions, the comb-back form is defined by a tall field of spindles that rise to a crest rail, creating a light, architectural back. Built entirely by hand from the log with no electricity, the parts are split with wedges, shaped with drawknife and spokeshave, steam-bent where curved, and assembled with hand-cut joinery; the seat is carved with travishers and the undercarriage is hand-turned from split maple. Finished in many thin layers of hand-mixed milk paint, the surface wears slowly through use, revealing the undercolor along facets and points of touch.
