The Meeting Bench
Hard maple, hickory, milk paint, waterlox & linseed oil
87" L x 42” H x 37” W
Designed for the Linde Wing at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, The Meeting Bench draws from the MFA’s American furniture holdings and Boston’s Windsor chairmaking history. Built using traditional hand-splitting techniques, the thin, flexible components create a structure defined as much by empty space as by material. Familiar rod-back and birdcage references establish trust, while broken lines, overlapping forms, curved planes, and slipped spindles subtly disrupt expectation. The bench offers a comfortable, open place for rest and gathering within a public space.
