Continuous Armchair
White oak, hard maple, eastern white pine, milk paint finish
The continuous arm form is built around a single steam-bent bow that becomes both arm and back, giving the chair its uninterrupted line and spring. Made entirely by hand from the log with no electricity, the chair is split, shaped, bent, and joined using traditional Windsor methods, with a hand-carved seat and hand-turned undercarriage from split maple. Built from thin, flexible elements, the chair reads as structure and air at once—remarkably strong, light, and responsive to the body. Hand-mixed milk paint is layered in thin coats so the finish burnishes and opens over time, gradually revealing the undercolor where the chair is held and worn.
