OH HELLO
If you have this link, it’s because I gave it to you directly so that you could download this little zine. I wrote it to support the students who enroll in my chair making classes. It skips a lot - mostly things that I would say in class or demo for you if you were there. However, it is jam packed with info on tools, studio infrastructure, scale patterns and process overviews. I hope you like it and that you play with the steps, the design, and the underlying structure to make it your own.
Please:
Reach out if you have questions or if you find any mistakes. I’d love to hear about them and fix them.
Please do not share this link with anyone without the permission of the project. If you choose to print out the zine, do not make duplicates, distribute it, or sell it for $$.
Consider donating something to this project if you can. It’s run by a community of generous chair nerds to support a community of generous chair nerds.
And! If you are looking for more info - I really recommend Peter Galbert’s The Chairmaker’s Notebook for info on process, material and ALL THE DETAILS or Chris Schwarz’s The Anarchists’s Design Book for a more general overview and more info about history and some fun “how to’s” on design. They are both available from Lost Art Press. Peter Galbert also has a 15 hour video on the whole dang Windsor process. It’s intensely helpful.
I am honored to share this space with you. Thank you for making this community and this project what it is.
Yours in Chairs,
Aspen Golann
